While I'm afloat here on a boat ⛵ in the Adriatic Sea, others have been working hard today's release of Unicode 10.0. This is out now.
A few months back there was the ✅📣 announcement of the 📍 final emoji list for 2017. This is the next step ✅📋.
Many of the new emojis announced in March need new code points 📝 from Unicode, which this release provides. This means Apple, Google, Microsoft or Samsung are now free to bring these to our phones. If they love us, they'll do it soon 💕
Vampire, Vomit Face, Dumpling, Sandwich, T-Rex are among the new entries in the Unicode Standard, sure to please a lot of you out there.
The question I get asked the most about these updates is when they're coming to 📲 iOS or WhatsApp. Apple didn't mention new emojis at WWDC this month; nor are they in the current developer previews of iOS.
Most likely iOS release: October or November in iOS 11.0 or 11.1. Stay tuned for updates on this! Vendor support will take place over the next 6-8 months which is the last step in the process.

📝 Unicode® 10.0.0
It's here: "Unicode 10.0 adds 8,518 characters, for a total of 136,690 characters. These additions include 4 new scripts, for a total of 139 scripts, as well as 56 new emoji characters."
🌟 New Emojis Now Showing On Facebook
Facebook hasn't confirmed this update is final, but a number of users are already seeing new emojis on the Facebook website. The star-struck face has rainbow stars!

Emojipedia doesn't have an official means of suggesting new emojis; but that doesn't mean we don't receive a lot of feedback on this. Italian "Kissy Chef Face" is one of many we've had a lot of requests for.

You know how people use the face + gun emoji pairing to suggest a bad day, or some variation of this. e.g. 😶🔫 Which faces do people use, and why? Jane Solomon investigates.
🇺🇸 US State Flag Emojis Now Possible
Emoji 5.0 permits a whole new type of flag for ISO subdivisions. While not every flag is likely to see support, vendors are now able to include states and provinces from around the world. This is the mechanism used to add flags for England, Scotland, and Wales in the latest release.

World Emoji Day, our annual celebration of emojis, is nearly with us. Far more details will be coming so either follow @WorldEmojiDay on Twitter or join the event on Facebook to be kept in the loop.
In previous years there have been competitions, giveaways, and new emoji announcements from major companies on the day, and in the lead-up to it. This year there may also be some events near you. It's a bit of fun, and I hope you'll join in!
