It's emoji season, friends! This is the time of year that vendors like Apple and Google release their major OS updates so we get those new emojis in our hands 👐
Android 8 "Oreo" was released this month, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is due very soon, and Apple has promised new emojis by the end of the year.

🍏 Apple marks World Emoji Day with beards, headscarves and breastfeeding
Apple has shown off some of the emojis coming to iOS by the end of 2017. This seems very unlikely to be in iOS 11.0 given the Apple event approaching on September 12. My money is on iOS 11.1 in October or November.

One of the most popular requests (other than redheads) from Emojipedia users has been black family emojis. White families, not as much (yellow is close enough I guess). Facebook now supports these.

Android 8 Oreo is the first mobile OS to support all the 2017 emojis. It also ditched the "blob" emoji style, and made some more like their iOS counterparts.

👥 The Unicode Blog: New Emoji Subcommittee Vice-Chairs
Peter Edberg of Apple has co-chaired the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee since its origin and is now stepping down from this role. I'd like to thank Peter for his work over the years on getting Unicode emoji support to where it is today! Three new vice-chairs are now me, Jennifer 8 Lee, and Tayfun Karadeniz.
